The Fugitives

The Fugitives, established in 2007, have released four records, which have been nominated for multiple Canadian Folk Music Awards and a Western Canadian Music Award. Their previous album, Everything Will Happen, spent ten weeks on the top ten Canadian folk charts, and earned them a support slot across Western Canada with Buffy Sainte-Marie and an appearance at UK’s Glastonbury Festival. Their follow-up, The Promise of Strangers, is set for release on January 26th on Borealis Records.

New Video for "Donegal", in Honour of Vimy Ridge Day

We are happy to release this new video for our song 'Donegal' today, on the anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. We remember the grit, fear, bravery, devastation and heart of our Canadian men and boys today who took that ridge by storm.

The lyrics that make up this song were borrowed from two poems by the great Irish war poet, Patrick MacGill. The bulk of the text is from his poem "A Lament From the Trenches" with a few lines from "The Star-Shell". MacGill's ability to convey the firsthand viscerality of trench combat while capturing the imagery and emotion in profound new ways made him one of the greatest poets to come out of WW1. We were truly inspired by his writing and lines of his can be found throughout our album, 'Trench Songs'.

This video comes from the film 'Ridge', written by our own Brendan McLeod, directed by Mike Southworth, shot by Byron Kopman and team and produced by the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.

New "Isolation Party"-themed Video Featuring Quarantine Celebrations From Around the World

It's a weird time and we're all going a bit crazy at home. And December is only going to exacerbate that. So we wanted to make a video for our new party song that's about partying alone (or at least in a bubble). We asked family, friends and fans to send in clips on this theme, using our new song for dance-piration and we were absolutely blown away by the response.

We received clips from all over North America, Europe and even as far away as India, Ecuador and Morocco (thank you all so, so much)!

We hope this brings some cheer. Please pass it along to anyone that might be feeling a bit lonely these days.

Love, The Fugitives
